Trail Running Series

Ten Point Service and Safety Policy

1. Adequately marked and mapped trails: We provide the proper amount of trail marking so that it's easy for runners to find their way for their safety and maximum performance.

2. Precisely measured distances: Provide runners with measurements of distances that would meet certification requirements. No guessing whether it was a real running event half marathon or 10K.

3. Real time scoring: End of race timing. Runners will know how well they did in comparision to their friends and other participants both within and out of their age groups when they finish the race, not several days later.

4. Results posted online on race day: Will have the results posted the day of the race on this site.

5. Course monitors: Provide directional assistance and support when needed.

6. Staffed aid stations: All aid stations are staffed and have sufficient stocks of food and water. There will be an adequate number so that no runner should have to go without proper hydration or nutrition.

7. Pre race event check-in: Bib numbers are assigned on race day to ensure exactly who and how many people start and finish a run. This is a safety measure to ensure that all runners are accounted for at the end of the run.

8. Medical personnel on site: In the case of emergency there's a first line of defense on location.

9. Limited number of participants: Ensures the outdoor wilderness experience and provides the ultimate trail run. These are not 10K races with thousands of people where a human being is always within arms reach.

10. Instant Goodies Bag: Choose your own gifts. Get what you want not all paid placements.

The Parks and Trails Benifit
The beneficiary of these running events are the parks and trails. At least 10% of the gross proceeds goes back directly to park in which the race took place and the remainder is reinvested in future trail events.

"Redwood Trails has set high standards that are sure to satisfy the needs of trail runners from beginners to seasoned competitors," Nancy Hobbs, Executive Director, All American Trail Running Association.

Race updates
Redwood Trails, the Bay area's leading provider of premium trail events will begin their six race "Spring Trail Running Series" on Saturday March 06, with the Palo Alto Vista Trail Run 1/2 marathon, 10K & 5K in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve, Palo Alto, CA.

All of the running events take place in some of the area's most scenic and runnable locations and all adhering to company's 10 point policy.

Redwood Trails has significantly increased the level of service and safety for trail runs and running events.

"As part of our research in creating the Fall Running Series, we have spoken to literally hundreds of trail runners to learn their requirements for better trail running races and developed a 10 point program to address their needs." according to Eric C. Gould, Redwood Trails, Founder and Race Director for the Fall Series.

"Basically trail runners want the same level of service, support and safety that they get at the big road racing events at their trail runs except without all the people or pavement and much better views. We provide that."

The Instant Goodies Bag
As part of this trail running event series Redwood Trails is introducing a new concept in the race registration process. Typically at running events racers receive a bag filled with an assortment of promotional samples and related literature called the goodies bag. Some of these items might be of interest to the athlete, others quickly make their way to the trash. And, athletes are burdened with the inconvenience of carrying the bag around with them as they begin their final preparations.

Now, Redwood Trails in association with the Sports Basement have developed a new advance that gives athletes the ability to receive their Goodies Bag whenever they want, get home delivery if they desire, and choose from thousands of brand name items with "The Instant Goodies Bag (tm)." Every athlete who pre-registers for the first three Fall Trail Series events will receive a $10.00 gift from the Sports Basement redeemable online or at the their store in downtown San Francisco.
