Red Rock Canyon - Race Day Info

Parking
There is no race day parking allowed within the park. Race day parking is at Bonnie Springs Ranch just six miles west (Highway 159) and we'll provide a free shuttle bus between the ranch, the starting line, and the finishing line. Your friends and family can drop you off at the entrance to the park and pick-up you up at the finish line if you choose not to use the shuttle bus.

Bonnie Springs Ranch offers a 10% discount on thier hotel for runners and great place for family fun.

Race Day Registration and Bib Pick-up
Race day registration and bib pick-up is from 6:45 AM to 7:45AM at Bonnie Springs Ranch. You will not receive a bib via postal mail. The last shuttle bus will leave for the starting line at 7:45 AM. Race day registration is $40.00 for the half marathon. There is no 10K distance for this race.

Online Registration

Weather
We run rain or shine. However, in the unlikely case that the park is closed for safety reasons we will reschedule the race. You may leave clothing at the start line to be transported back to the finishing line. It will be very cool in the AM (20's - 40').

Las Vegas Strip Shuttle
We are also providing a shuttle from the Las Vegas Strip. The bus will leave the Paris Hotel at 6:00 AM and stop at Circus Circus at 6:10 AM. The bus will return back to these hotels when all runners have finished the race, so please plan on some wait time. The cost for the Las Vegas Strip Shuttle is $10.00 round trip, which is paid with bib pick-up. Please do not pay the bus driver. He'll just thank you for the tip and you'll still need to pay for the shuttle.

  • 6:00 AM - Paris Hotel - north tour lobby side door
  • 6:10 AM - Circus Circus - front valet east door

Start/Finish
The course is an "open" loop with a different location for the starting line and finishing line. The race will begin near the entrance gate to the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area at 8:00 AM. The finish line is at the parking lot at the end of the "13 Mile Scenic Road." These two locations are separated by over two miles.

Map

The Course
The half marathon course is 12.8 miles on the Scenic Road and about 0.3 miles on a gravel trail. The gravel trail section is an out-and-back loop starting about mile 12. Starting elevation is around 3,700 feet and the highest point is 4,771 feet at mile 4.60.

Elevation Profile

There will be aid stations about every two miles for a total of 6 stations. All aid stations are fully stocked with water, Gatorade, gels, bars, oranges, bananas, pretzels and a first aid kit (Vaseline, Band-Aids, etc.).

The course will not be closed to traffic and we'll run on the left side of the road. The road will be signed with "Runners on the Road" and there will be cones separating you from the cars. Of course, please keep your sense of survival above your sense of competition.

Low Key Event

Redwood Trails races are very low key events. We pick locations where the scenery provides the entertainment rather than rock bands at every mile. There are no big formal award ceremonies either - every finisher is a winner and all finishers will receive a Redwood Trails t-shirts.

We do score the race in 5 year age groups and give out ribbons to the top 3 men and women in each age group represented. Also, our events are very small with no large crowds or do they take minutes to cross the starting line. Red Rock will have just over 100 runners. We do have a full spread of race day treats to eat at the end of the race including hot soup, pastries, fresh fruit and vegetables, and some good old fashion sugary stuff too.
