China Camp
Running Event

San Pablo Bay Trail Run
Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K and 5K
China Camp State Park - Miwok Meadows
Start in the park’s Miwok meadow. The half marathon continues up through the rolling hills. The 5K &10k stay along the shoreline engulfed in a canopy of trees.

The 10K is perhaps the fastest trail run we know. Even quicker still is the 5K—perfect for first time trail runners. All routes are precisely measured for timing accuracy. And unlike road running races with thousands of people, the San Pablo Bay Trail Run is limited to just 300 people to insure a safe and friendly atmosphere.

There will be three aid stations along each route with water, energy snacks and Gatorade. There will be additional fun and healthy snacks at the finish line.

Come join us for this run, or any of the runs in the series, or run them all. Hikers and walkers are welcome too.

China Camp State Park is located on the southwest shore of San Pablo Bay, just three miles, but worlds apart from downtown San Rafael in Marin County. The park is easily reached from Highway 101 and is just a twenty-minute drive from San Francisco by way of the Golden Gate Bridge. While we cannot make any promises for race day, one of the reasons we like this place so much is the park consistently enjoys some of the best weather in the Bay Area. In fact, the park enjoys more than two hundred fog free days per year. The high ridges to the west create a natural defense protecting the park from the fog that often moves in from the ocean to cover the San Francisco bay area.

The park gets its name from the Chinese shrimp-fishing village that thrived on this site in the 1880s. Nearly 500 people, originally from Canton, China, lived in the village. In its heyday, there were three general stores, a marine supply store and a barber shop. Over 90% of the shrimp they netted were dried and shipped to China or Chinese communities throughout the US.

The San Pablo Bay Trail Run takes place within China Camp State Park’s 1,640 acres of natural watershed along the shores of San Francisco Bay. The course is designed to take complete advantage of fine single track trails along the San Pedro Ridge and shoreline. Runners will be treated to magnificent panoramic views of the north bay area including San Pablo Bay, the north bay counties of Napa, Solano, and Sonoma, the East Bay Hills, Mount Diablo, Angel Island, the San Francisco Peninsula and Mount Tamalpais.

The half marathon route goes just above 700 feet in elevation and some how manages to have more down hill than uphill running. As trail runs go this one is not only beautiful but fast. The trail route goes through canopies of oak, bay and redwood forests. Don’t be surprised by the deer joining us on the trails or the wild turkey avoiding the Thanksgiving day rush.
