Much of the course traces the western edge of the city, offering sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the Marin Headlands. The terrain includes a small section of beach running and a brief street tour of Seacliff's mansions. Highlights include historic coastal defense batteries, spring wildflowers, hawk and raven sightings, and dramatic displays of serpentine rock. |

We start and finish at the northern end of Crissy Field, adjacent to the San Francisco Bay and across from the Farallones Marine Sanctuary. Directly in front of the starting line are Fort Point and the Golden Gate Bridge; to the right are stellar views of Alcatraz and Angel Island. This is an out-and-back run along the California Coastal Trail. We'll In order to minimize ecological damage to the area, enrollment is limited to 200 people. |

The profile of this course is a little misleading. Since we start at sea level and only climb a couple 100 feet or so, one might be led to believe that some of the best views in San Francisco will come without a price. However, the return section of the run includes the infamous Baker Beach Sand Ladder, arguably the hardest 150 feet in any race. Some will run this section, others will walk it, and many will curse it. Regardless, this is an excellent event for beginners and experienced runners alike. When we want to impress our friends and family with the Bay Area's beauty, this is the course we take them on. |
